Lugun took to hockey from early childhood and aspired to make her country proud by representing India in international hockey matches. But the abject poverty faced by her family acted as a fly in the ointment to her aspirations. Instead of picking up hockey stick, she ended up picking shovel to work as a migrant labourer to provide financial support to her family. Once a star player of national hockey team, Sunita had to leave Odisha to work as a daily wage earner in Tamil Nadu.
Taking cognizance of the situation & potential of the player, Dilip Tirkey Sports Research & Development Foundation (DTSRD) and Health On Top, have come ahead to provide financial assistance and gift Hockey kit to Lugun.
She was felicitated today at Kalinga Stadium by the President of DTRSD, Padma Shri Dilip Tirkey in presence of the Secretary-General of DTSRD, Dibakar Parichha and the Managing Director of DTSRD, Prime Abhilas. The CEO of Health On Top, Gaurav Ralhan also made his presence felt on the occasion.
